Candidates file for State Party Office
With the call to order of the first county convention in Sanpete County on April 14th the filing period for those interested in running for state party office ended. At least one candidate filed for each party office open this year. State delegates will have the opportunity to vote for these candidates at state convention on Saturday, June 20th.
Information on state convention and on the candidates is provided below. We will be posting bios on each of the candidates as they are received. You can contact these candidates by using the link provided if you would like to communicate with them indivdually.

WAYNE HOLLAND BIOGRAPHY
Wayne’s passion for politics and social justice started early, and has carried on throughout his life. As a young activist Wayne worked tirelessly with the labor movement’s youth programs to support the Solidarnosc movement in Poland and by fighting to end Apartheid in South Africa.A third generation copper miner and current International Staff Representative for the United Steel Workers, Wayne negotiated over 75 collective bargaining agreements and served as Chief Advocate in 100+ arbitration cases.
After working in the Western battleground states in the 2004 presidential campaign, Wayne was elected Chairman of the Utah Democratic Party.
His chairmanship has been marked by dramatically increased candidate recruitment, remarkable fundraising, and innovative field and messaging programs that have transformed Utah politics. Wayne also represents all Western chairs on the Executive Board.
Together Wayne and his wife Katie are the parents of four: Justin, Jamie, Nick, and Kyle, and grandparents of two.

JEFF BELL BIOGRAPHY
Jeff Bell has been working in and around politics since 1989. He has worked or consulted on more than 20 campaigns in several different states, providing campaign and communications strategy and management.
Jeff is the Media Director for High Road for Human Rights, making film and documentary features, handling graphic design and designing and managing High Road's internet development and website. He is also currently the president of the Children's Justice Corps, a non-profit entity that educates about against children and lobbies for smarter investigation, prosecution and punishment for offenders.
Jeff is the former Democratic National Committee Communications Director for Utah and is currently the host of “J.M. Bell’s Left of the Dial” on KSL NewsRadio in Salt Lake City. Jeff writes daily about politics and culture at www.jmbell.org.
Jeff lives with his wife and three children in West Jordan.

KATHLEEN SNYDER
In 1999 Kathy moved to Mendon, Utah where she became involved with the Friends of the Mendon Library, and the Cache County Democrats. Kathy chaired the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner 2008, 2009, chaired the get-out- the-vote effort in 2006 and 2008, worked on the resolution and platform committees for 3 years, served as the county party secretary and organized the Cache Democrats Cache County Fair booth for the past 2 years. She is currently the vice chair. She serves on the State Central Committee and was a pledged delegate for Senator Obama to the 2008 National Convention. She is a member of the Women’s Caucus and is currently working with the Fair Boundaries PIC.
Prior to moving to Utah, Kathy spent 15 years involved with the Friends of the Solana Beach, California Library serving as president, vice president and treasurer. Her major accomplishment with the Solana Beach Library was assisting in raising over $750,000 for a shared used library and working on the library joint planning committee. This committee was made up of representatives from the San Diego County Library, the City of Solana Beach, the School District and the Friends Library.
Her working experience is in retail management, savings and loans, a classified employee in education and is currently the business manager of Snyder Consulting.
Kathy is married to Al Snyder. Their son Brian Freeman was killed in Iraq in 2007, leaving his wife Charlotte Freeman and two children Gunnar and Ingrid.
