Why Utah needs healthcare reform
In a recent report released by HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, the costs of America's broken healthcare system for Utahns are obvious. The facts revealed in HHS' state by state report include:
- Premiums for a Utah family average $12,698 per year
- Premiums have increased 101% since 2000
- 15% of Utahns are uninsured - 77% with at least one full-time worker at home
- Utah families and businesses pay a hidden tax of $900 per year subsidizing the uninsured through their premiums
- Estimated 19,480 Utahns will lose insurance from Jan 2008 - Dec 2010 (SLTrib 07/15/09)
