Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to Speak at Westminster College

 

SALT LAKE CITY (November 21, 2006) - Robert F. Kennedy Jr., environmental activist, attorney and best-selling author, will speak at Westminster College on Sunday, December 3, 2006 at 5:30 p.m. in the Vieve Gore Concert Hall of the Emma Eccles Jones Conservatory. Kennedy's lecture, "A Contract with Our Future," will discuss the important role that our natural surroundings play in our work, our health and our identity as Americans. 

 

The event is being presented by Great Salt Lakekeeper and Westminster's Roots & Shoots program.  Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the Westminster College Campus Concierge Desk in the Shaw Center, as well as from local REI stores, the Patagonia Outlet and Sam Weller's Zion Bookstore.  Proceeds from the event will benefit the Great Salt Lakekeeper.

 

One of "Time" magazine's "Heroes for the Planet," Kennedy has earned his reputation as a leading defender of the environment through legal action and as President of Waterkeeper Alliance, a collective of over 150 Waterkeeper organizations worldwide that protect local waterways.  Among Kennedy's publications are the New York Times' bestseller Crimes Against Nature, The Riverkeepers and numerous award-winning newspaper and magazine articles.

 

Kennedy will explain how good environmental policy is good business policy, good economic policy and good policy for posterity. He will discuss such topics as little-known environmental abuses sanctioned by our federal and state governments his own and other attorneys' confrontations with environmental lawbreakers groundbreaking court battles and the backlash led by congressional leaders and their major corporate allies that threatens to reverse the invaluable protections that have been built into our country's environmental law and policy.
