Sen. Hatch = Pants On Fire

Utah Senior Senator Fibs to GOP Luncheon Crowd

ST GEORGE, UT – Acting in his role of White House Head Cheerleader, Utah’s Senior Senator, Orrin Hatch made a statement Saturday that was either one of the largest lapses of memory in his political career, or a bold face lie in order to drum up support for a lagging and dispirited White House.

Hatch stated, at the invitation only event the following:

"Nobody denies that he [Hussein] was supporting al-Qaida [sic]." In a clear attack on Democrats, Hatch added, "Well, I shouldn't say nobody. Nobody with brains." [The Spectrum, FEB 19, 2006]

Utah State Democratic Party Chair Wayne Holland, Jr. released the following statement today in reaction to Senator Hatch’s statement:

“Normally, to react to Senator Hatch’s comments last Saturday, we’d use words like ‘misspoke’ or ‘mistakenly stated”, but this time, we just can’t.

“Senator Hatch, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, no less, stood in front of crowd of people and made a statement, a statement that is just not true, in what seems to be an attempt to mislead and misinform the people of Utah. From Colin Powel to the 9/11 Commission to the White House itself, claims of Saddam’s support of Al Qaeda have been proven untrue.

“This is not leadership. This is not honesty. This seems nothing more than dirty politics and negative messaging. This is insulting to the people of Utah. When Senator Hatch speaks, especially to the media, he seems to give one reason after another as to why the people of Utah need a change.”
