Final
Ashdown-Hatch Debate
TODAY
WHAT:
The last scheduled debate between Pete Ashdown,
Democratic nominee, and Orrin Hatch, incumbent
Republican, will take place on Tuesday in front
of the Salt Lake Rotary Club Luncheon.
While Ashdown is willing to meet anywhere and
anytime for more debates, his opponent has
ducked out of debates on several media outlets,
including KBYU TV, KSL radio, KCPW radio, KTMP
radio, KUSU/Utah Public Radio, and
others. Ashdown is inviting the public to
attend, as his personal guests.
WHEN and
WHERE: TODAY, October 31, 2006, at 12
Noon. The Salt Lake Rotary Club is
sponsoring the debate at their weekly luncheon,
at the Downtown Marriott, 75 S West Temple,
Salt Lake City, UT.
WHO: Pete Ashdown is
the founder and President of XMission, Utah's
first Internet service provider. The 39
year-old husband and father of three is seeking
to become Utah's first Democratic US Senator
since 1976. Ashdown believes that through
the use of modern communication and
collaborative technologies, the public can have
a voice equal to paid lobbyists who see our
elected officials every day. Ashdown has
been a member of the Salt Lake Rotary Club
since 2004; he serves as the webmaster for the
statewide Rotary District website, and is
heavily involved in designing the website and
other materials for the 2007 Rotary
International Convention, to be held in Salt
Lake City.
WHY: Because of his opponent's
frequent refusals to debate, including pulling
out of debates that he has committed to, it is
imperative that the public understands the
choice in this election. In previous
debates, Ashdown has clearly articulated that
Utahns deserve a new senator for a new
century. Ashdown agrees that his opponent
fits the description of Conservative movement
founder Richard Viguerie: "The big-spending,
high-deficit, morally-deficient Republican
Party hasn't anything to offer conservatives
except Halloween scare tactics about the
Democrats." Ashdown will continue to
stand against that by giving the true story
against his opponents flawed logic and
fictitious figures.
